Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4: Everything to Know Before Launch
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on Friday, 23 October 2026. Led by Infinity Ward, the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC. Here’s how its three main experiences are shaping up ahead of release. Official Modern Warfare 4 news hubModern Warefare 4
A campaign on two fronts
The story begins with a North Korean invasion of South Korea. As soldiers fight on the Korean Peninsula, John Price is operating outside official channels and pursuing a threat of his own. Those two threads set up a global campaign that continues the current Modern Warfare storyline. If you need a refresher before playing, Call of Duty has published a recap of the story so far.
Eligible digital pre-orders include Campaign Early Access from 16 October, subject to platform availability and the publisher’s terms. See the official edition details.
What’s coming to Multiplayer?
Infinity Ward is highlighting refined movement, precision gunplay, new Killstreaks and Apex Attachments. Its Multiplayer trailer and updates also outline 12 new 6v6 maps alongside Kill Block and Ground War. The real test will come when players can see how those systems feel across the full launch lineup.
DMZ returns
Extraction mode DMZ is back as a major part of Modern Warfare 4. It offers a different rhythm from traditional Multiplayer: players enter contested territory, choose objectives, gather resources and decide when to extract. The official news hub collects the latest DMZ guides and deep dives. Eligible digital pre-orders list DMZ Early Access from 20 October. Check access and edition terms.
Which edition should you choose?
The Standard Edition includes the base game, while the Vault Edition adds digital extras, including Operator and weapon content and a Season 1 BlackCell Battle Pass entitlement. Pre-order bonuses and eligibility vary, so check the Activision edition breakdown before buying. PC players should also review the listed security requirements.
The countdown is on
With its split-front campaign, expanded Multiplayer offering and the return of DMZ, Modern Warfare 4 has plenty for series fans to watch. The confirmed release date is 23 October 2026; for trailers, launch updates and any changes to early-access timing, keep the official Modern Warfare 4 hub bookmarked.
