Getting Ready for Modern Warfare 4: A Launch Week Checklist
The final days before a major game release can be a scramble: choosing an edition, clearing storage, checking access dates and trying to remember what happened in the story. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on 23 October 2026, so now is a good time to get those decisions out of the way. Here is a straightforward checklist for launch week.
Modern Warefare 4 - Captain Price
1. Check where you want to play
Modern Warfare 4 is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. On PC, it will be available through Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC. Choose the platform where you are most likely to play with friends and where you want your purchase tied to your account.
PC players should check the technical requirements before buying. Activision says TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are required; its edition and support page also lists other access conditions. Checking these now is easier than troubleshooting on launch night.
2. Decide whether an upgraded edition is useful to you
The Standard Edition provides the base game. The Vault Edition adds digital extras, including Operator and weapon content and a BlackCell Battle Pass entitlement for one season. That is a better fit for someone who expects to spend a lot of time with the game’s ongoing content than for someone who only wants to play the campaign.
Read the official edition comparison before purchasing. It explains which bonuses apply to each edition and which benefits have conditions attached.
3. Mark the dates that apply to your purchase
The worldwide launch is Friday, 23 October. Eligible digital pre-orders include Campaign Early Access from 16 October and DMZ Early Access from 20 October. Actual start times and availability can vary by platform and time zone, so confirm the details for your own purchase rather than planning around a date alone. The official game page is the place to check for updates.
4. Catch up on the story
If you plan to start with Campaign, you do not need to replay every recent Modern Warfare title to remember the main threads. Call of Duty has published an official “story so far” recap. It explains how John Price reached his position at the start of the new game.
The recap does contain earlier story developments, so save it until after playing the previous games if you are avoiding spoilers.
5. Make a first-night plan
A little planning can make launch night more enjoyable. If you are playing with friends, agree on a time and choose what to try first. If you are starting with the campaign, give yourself an uninterrupted stretch. For Multiplayer, try several modes before settling into one. For DMZ, expect the first runs to be about learning objectives and extraction routes.
Then leave room to change plans. Launch week is when players discover what actually clicks for them. Keep the official Modern Warfare 4 news hub handy for the latest guidance, and enjoy finding your own way into the game.
